It doesn’t matter the line of work that you find yourself in, be it a large corporate, government departments, a small start-up, sporting team or school, teamwork has always proved to be the real game changer for success. Having a team of highly talented individuals is one thing but producing the best results from them is another. This explains why a team of highly talented individuals might fail to win games or generate expected levels of profit.

Things are done quicker and better when people work together towards a common goal. This is a key ingredient of high performance teams where the goal is bigger than the role. The team agenda is takes precedence than the individual dream. The more effective each one contributes to the good and betterment of the team, the more successful the task they set out to accomplish comes within reach and with increased effort, great results become manifest. This is on condition that the team members communicate freely and have total confidence and trust in each other’s abilities and judgment. Trust is the glue that binds team members together into a unified force that can stand any challenge.

Every great team was built over time and anyone who desires to get the best out of a team must appreciate the fact that every team needs building and team building is one of the best investments an organization can make for the good of the team. Real results come in as a result of thinking about the growth of the team and coming up with means and ways that promote such growth. It is common these days to seek the assistance of a team building services provider or coach who will help develop and assist in team building initiatives and strategies. This is not and should not be done as a once of expedition and encounter with the expectation of immediate results thereafter. Instead, it ought to be a continuous process that is well thought out if ever the intended results are to be gotten.

Team building is about creating bonds and bringing out the collective genius within the team, for which every team has within its structures the deeply embedded potential that can bring about amazing results to the amazement of many. Team building is not a recreational experience as many would want to define it. It goes beyond being merely a social event with little or no connection to the workplace. Instead, it is part of the talent and manpower development effort with the capacity to transform a mediocre entity into a force to reckon with in any industry.

Team building initiatives should not be seen as outdoor fun games and activities where employees relieve pressure, only to go back to the workplace with the same modus operandi. The real essence of team building initiatives is total alignment with the overall mission and vision of the organization and come up with strategies on how best the intended goals can be attained. In as much as the adrenaline rising activities make the events memorable, there is need to make the whole assignment motivating and challenging to push everyone to offer more than their present order of executing their set assignment. Proper team building that produces the intended results is a broad concept hinged on engagement in various activities with a clear and well spelt purpose. True team building has both meaning and purpose.

It has been proven time without number that team members who work well together create positive results and enjoy themselves while working. Because everyone spends greater part of their active lives at work, it is only logical to create and establish a serious coalition of team members who are excited to work together, fight together, win together and celebrate together. Means and ways of improving team effectiveness ought to be looked at and embedded into every team for the good of all.

Wild dogs may not be appealing physically but their cooperative order is a marvel of teamwork worth emulating. Everything that happens within and around the pack is a lesson that any team aspiring to greatness should take note of. In as much as each member of the pack is strong and uniquely talented, they know fully well that without others, they are highly vulnerable. It doesn’t matter how intelligent, talented or experienced a team member might be, nothing much is accomplished without others. The legendary football player, Pele, would say ‘No individual can win a game by himself.’ Pele was indeed a great footballer but he only became great because there were other players in the playing field.

In quality control, there is a concept called feed forward control. It essentially says if the input is correct, with all the systems and people in their rightful positions, the output tends to take care of itself. The other extreme is equally right, if the input is of poor quality there is little magic that can be performed to right the output. At the center of all production and service provision are the people who run the systems and drive everything forward. If the people are not firing from all cylinders, there is no guarantee the output will be good enough. The same principle of feed forward control applies to manpower in greater magnitude. Great teamwork is built from the point of entry. Getting it right from the recruitment process goes a long way in building up a formidable team. People are however exceptional in that even though they might have the knowhow, productivity can drop as a result of the goings on in the environment or other developments within the workplace that can water down their morale. The need for continuous motivation and inspiration cannot be ignored for long.
